A good turnout of 38 walkers enjoyed this very pleasant four hour walk from the once busy Shap village through the Lowther Valley to the ruins of Shap Abbey (see photo) and the hamlet of Kells.
The weather was fair with a freshness that helped ease us over the numerous stone stiles and allowed appreciation of the austere limestone landscape and the timeless drystone dykes. On return to the peaceful Shap the local ice cream was much appreciated.
