Walk 81 Report, Saturday 24 February

Annan Walking Group walk along River Sark

Saturday's weather forecast indicated rain but this did not discourage 45 walkers meeting at the Old Blacksmith's Shop Gretna Green.

The walkers headed north past Blacksike and then turned south to follow the course of the Black Sark Water to Quintinshill Bridge. The group stood for a few minutes at QuintinshillI and were given a short history.  In 1915 this was the site of Britain's worst railway disaster when three trains collided, 227 were killed and 246 people were injured.

The walking route then passed through the village of Springfield and crossed the fields to the banks of the River Sark. After passing under the M74 moterway and through Gretna  the route followed the path  back to Gretna Green. The interesting route was about 6.5miles and the forecast rain didn't start until we were driving home.
