Walk 109 Report, Sun 11 May

Annan Walking Group walking Lanercost and Hadrians Wall

32 walkers enjoyed this 6.5 miles circular walk in glorious sunshine. Starting from Lanercost Bridge we soon left the tranquil River Irthing to head uphill towards the Hadrians Wall National Trail.

Joining the Trail we headed east following the line of the Wall to Hare Hill Farm greatly enjoying the panoramic views as we climbed to the highest point of our walk. Then on to the tiny hamlet of Banks where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch break round the village green. Now leaving the Trail we travelled down to Wallholme Bridge passing on the way wooded banks laden with Bluebells and other wild flowers. Crossing the bridge we followed the line of the River Irthing through the fields to Crookstown. From there we travelled west along quiet country lanes and field paths to our start point at Lanercost Bridge passing to the rear of Lanercost Priory en-route.

A great days walking with the weather and scenery just making it that little bit special.
