THE WALK followed the river side path to Newbie which crosses the sandstone bridge built 1924 as a memorial to Harry Llewelyn Davies a much respected Managing Director of Cochran & Co. The route then passed the Cochran factory and what was the site of Newbie brick works before joining the Solway shore at Newbie Mains. The group then took the cliff track to Newbie Cottage before descending to the shore to ford the Muirbeck Burn. The next mile was along the shingle to Powfoot. The return journey followed the same route back to Newbie Mains which was the site of Newbie Castle in the 18th century. They than walked the shore track to Barnkirk Hill at Annan Waterfoot before returning to Annan.
In spite of a poor weather forecast the 12 members walked the 9 mile route on a clear, cool but windless day which showed the Solway and distant Criffel at their best,
