The Royal Burgh of Annan Community Council

"Community Councils are the most local tier of statutory representation in Scotland. They bridge the gap between local authorities and communities and help to make public bodies aware of the opinions and needs of the communities they represent"

Dumfries and Galloway Council are the statutory body that oversees the running of the Royal Burgh of Annan Community Council.

The town is well represented by its twelve elected members, all resident in different areas of the town.

As well as working with elected members and officers of Dumfries and Galloway Council to benefit the town, the Community Council is actively involved in many community activities. These include; organising the annual Garden Competition, the Christmas Window Dressing Competion, the Annan Young Citizen of the Year award, planting and tending the flowers at the railway station, helping with the towns Christmas lights and decorations, grit bin coordination, responsibility for Annan.org.uk web site and Remembrance Sunday commemorations.

We have representation on local committees, including the Royal Burgh Common Good Fund and The Federation of Community Councils for Annandale and Eskdale. We are also consulted on issues affecting the town like planning applications and economic regeneration.

The Community Council meets on the second Monday of each month in the Victoria Halls Meeting Room, Downies Wynd at 7pm. For further information or if you have a query, come along to our next meeting - all are welcome!

Keep up to date with our meeting dates and view minutes of meetings on the Annan News blog
