    Lighting a fire in the countryside can cause all sorts of problems for wildlife, and for people. But it can also be a great fun way to spend an evening while out camping. Come and learn the correct, safe way to light a fire without harming anything.

  • Oh! What a Lovely War :: Thursday 23 October
    6.30pm @ Annan Museum
    In honour of Richard Attenborough, and to mark the important part Annan and the surrounding area played in WWI, this special screening of Attenborough's first film as a director has been arranged. Based on Joan Littlewood’s stage production, this film is a stylised, satirical and ultimately moving tribute to the soldiers who answered their country’s call and fought in the Great War.

  • World War One – the landscape legacy in Dumfries and Galloway :: Thursday 30 October

    Historic Environment Records Officer Andrew Nicholson will give an illustrated talk describing features in the local landscape which are a legacy of events that took place as a result of World War One.

    During the early stages of World War One most people in Britain thought that the fighting would be over quickly and that troops sent off to battle would be “home by Christmas”.
    This exhibition of local stories, recruitment posters and memorabilia is part of a series of exhibitions planned across Dumfries and Galloway museums commemorating a past generation caught up in The Great War.
