Bridge House History Room
PROPOSED PROJECT - MAY 2010
BACKGROUND
Bridge House was built in 1780 and is considered to be one of the finest Georgian town houses in Scotland. It is a "Category A" Historic Scotland Statutory Listed property situated at the end of Annan High Street.
From 1802 to 1820 Bridge House served as the town Academy, where Edward Irving was a pupil and Thomas Carlyle was both pupil and teacher.
Today, Mr David Smith, DS Properties, owns Bridge House and plans to renovate the property and return it to residential use.
Mr Smith has generously offered to gift a ground floor room to the people of Annan to be used for an agreed community purpose.
The offer represents a unique opportunity to record a significant part of Annan's history both physical and personal.
Get involved with this project and help to make it happen!
