Gretna Primary School
Gretna
Primary School serves the town of Gretna.
The present school building
was officially opened on 11 November 1982, since then a four
class extension and purpose built nursery have been added.
The original building was designed in a semi-open plan format
and as well as eleven teaching bases, has a quiet room and a large
communal area which provides facilities for dining, physical education
or auditorium purposes.
Gretna Primary is staffed with teaching staff, a learning
support teacher, a janitor, clerical assistants, two classroom
assistants, three nursery nurses and one classroom assistant (support
for learning).
All pupils receive specialist input for PE, Art and Music.
A programme of extra curricular activities such as football, recorders,
netball and computer club takes place throughout the year. There
are annual weeklong trips to London for primary seven pupils and
Winmarleigh Hall for primary 6 pupils and a variety of educational
trips for all classes throughout the year.
There are excellent links with the community including local businesses,
church day centre and other schools.
