Carrutherstown Primary School, near Annan
Situated
approximately 10 miles from Dumfries town centre and 7 miles from
Annan, off the A75 and on the Dalton, Ecclefechan B725, the school
is bounded on two sides by the village and open farmland on the
other two sides.
Tarmac, paved and grassed play areas, as well as a football pitch
offer ample space for outdoor activities. The grounds have been
planted with trees and shrubs and a barked play area has also been
provided.
The school was officially opened in November 1974 and replaced
an older building in Dalton Village.
The school serves a wide catchment area including the villages
of Carrutherstown and Dalton and the surrounding rural areas.
Classrooms open
out into a general purpose area which is used for lessons including
PE, Music, Dance and Drama. A small computer suite with 6 networked
computers is located at one side of this area and there is
space to accommodate tables
for smaller groups of children to work.
The school is well resourced
and has benefited from new equipment for PE/Health activities,
installation of an Interactive Whiteboard and Digital
Projector in each of the two class bases and new musical
instruments.
Visiting specialists of music,
physical education, art and learning support teach regularly in
school.
