Friends of Annandale and Eskdale Museums

The Friends association, Scottish Charity No. 21821, was founded in 1991 to support the establishment and running of a museums service for East Dumfriesshire.

Fruitful discussions with the then Annandale and Eskdale Council led to the opening of the Historic Resources Centre (now Annan Museum) in Bank Street, Annan in 1995.

An initial donation from the Royal Bank of Scotland and constant fundraising have enabled the Friends to support the Centre by helping to purchase paintings, photographs, books and archival documents, and by contributing to the costs of material for exhibitions. Members help to man the Curator's exhibitions.

The Friends also arrange an annual series of talks by leading experts, take excursions to historic sites, and publish books on local subjects such as "By Royal Command" by Margery Wilkins on the artist W.E. Lockhart, and "The Sandstone Heritage of Dumfriesshire" by Jim Hawkins.
