Cycling in south west Scotland
The
Annan area offers the place and pace to suit the cyclist -
with unspoilt scenery, contrasting landscapes, a mild climate
and a wealth of history and heritage to explore ....
The
National Cycle Network is being developed right across Britain
and Northern Ireland linking town centres and the countryside.
Several routes pass through this area:
Runs
from Carlisle to Inverness and covers 114 miles (182km)
in Dumfries and Galloway.
Winding
its way through the region, mainly on quiet country
roads, Route 7 offers hill, moorland and coast. The
off-road sections and bridges have been constructed
to a high quality and have opened up previously
restricted areas of countryside to wheelchair users, families
with young children, the elderly and mobility impaired.
Connects
Route 7 to South Lanarkshire running along quiet
country roads from Rigg, near Gretna.
It also links
to the National Byway (see below) and the Southern
Upland Way, Britain's first coast to coast long distance
footpath.
A
network of rural lanes reaching into the heart
of British heritage.The
Byway runs for 194 miles (312km) in Dumfries and Galloway (in places
sharing
with the National Cycle Network) taking in attractive
countryside, heritage sites and places of interest.
